// about the project
Radio software that just works
The world of signal decoding has long been fragmented — dozens of brilliant, specialized tools, each needing technical knowledge to set up. Airwaves OS unifies them under a single, friendly platform.
01 Our mission
Airwaves OS was created with a simple but powerful mission: build radio software that just works. We're committed to making radio technology accessible to everyone, regardless of technical expertise.
Initially developed by the team behind Airframes, the platform has evolved with a broader vision — to serve all radio-related interests with the same reliability and ease of use.
02 Beyond aviation & maritime
Our initial focus is aviation and maritime signals — ACARS, VDL, HFDL, SATCOM, AIS — but the vision extends much further:
- Amateur (ham) radio
- Meteorological data
- Satellite communications
- Terrestrial broadcasting
- Emergency services monitoring
- Scientific research
03 Design philosophy
- Simplicity — easy to install, configure and use
- Reliability — stable operation on varied hardware
- Accessibility — designed for all technical levels
- Transparency — open architecture, clear communication
- Community-driven — built with and for radio enthusiasts
- Open source — developed in the open and licensed under GPLv3 (license still being finalized)
04 Open to all
Although Airframes is the initial creator and primary sponsor, Airwaves OS is committed to an open ecosystem: it supports multiple data aggregators — Airframes, Airplanes.Live, Plane.Watch, FlightAware, ADS-B Exchange, FlightRadar24 and more — so you choose where your data flows.
Airwaves OS is more than software — it's a community of radio enthusiasts, researchers and curious minds. Join us.
